Yamaha India Faces Minor Sales Decline In June 2024, Some Models Grow
Yamaha India experienced a decline in domestic sales in June 2024, with a total of 58,471 units sold. This represents a slight year-on-year (YoY) decrease of 0.16% from the 58,567 units sold in June 2023. Month-on-month (MoM) sales also dropped significantly by 8.95% compared to the 64,222 units sold in May 2024.
The Yamaha RayZR led domestic sales with 15,184 units sold last month, reflecting a YoY growth of 12.97% from the 13,441 units sold in June 2023. This model now holds a substantial 25.97% share of the company's portfolio. In April 2024, Yamaha introduced new colour options and body graphics for the RayZR, MT-15, and Fascino as part of their 'Call of the Blue' campaign.

Yamaha Sales Performance: Key Models
Despite an overall decline, some models showed positive trends. The Yamaha MT-15 saw a notable YoY increase of 27.28%, with sales rising to 11,617 units from 9,127 units in June 2023. This model now accounts for a significant 19.87% share of Yamaha's total sales.
Conversely, the Yamaha FZ experienced a sharp YoY decline of 26.20%, with sales dropping to 12,041 units from 16,312 units in June 2023. Despite this decrease, it still maintained a considerable share of total sales at 20.59%. The Fascino and R15 models also faced declines; Fascino's sales fell by 3.32% to 9,254 units, while R15's sales decreased by 13.20% to 8,776 units.

Month-on-Month Sales Analysis
On a MoM basis, Yamaha's domestic sales dropped by nearly nine percent in June compared to May. The RayZR was an exception among Yamaha models as its sales increased by 10.08%, reaching up to 15,184 units from May's figure of 13,794 units.

Other models did not fare as well on a MoM basis. The FZ saw its sales dip by 16.14%, falling from May's figure of 14,359 units to June's total of just over twelve thousand units. Similarly, MT-15 experienced a significant drop of over twenty percent from May’s figure of more than fourteen thousand units.
The highest MoM decline was observed for the R3/MT-03 models whose sales plummeted by an alarming seventy-one percent from twenty-one units in May to just six in June. The high cost associated with these models seems to deter price-sensitive Indian consumers when compared to competitors like Aprilia RS457.
Overall, while certain models like the RayZR and MT-15 showed resilience and growth amidst challenging market conditions, others like the FZ and R3/MT-03 struggled significantly both on YoY and MoM metrics.
