KTM RC 390 Still On Sale In India Despite Global Discontinuation

KTM's premium supersport model, the RC 390, continues to remain on sale in India despite the motorcycle being discontinued globally, according to multiple news reports. India is currently the only country where the RC 390 is still available for sale. Bajaj Auto, KTM's manufacturing partner in India, produces the RC 390 locally at its facility.

Slowing Demand for KTM RC 390

Over the past few years, the single-cylinder 373cc motorcycle has not seen much demand globally. The brand also had to update the engine to meet the new Euro 5+ emission regulations, which resulted in a significant increase in the motorcycle's price in international markets.

Strong Demand in India

Meanwhile, the RC 390 continues to enjoy strong demand in the Indian market, which is why it remains on sale domestically. Since it is locally manufactured, the cost of the motorcycle has not increased much in recent years.

The Duke 390 has already been updated with the new LC4C, 399cc single-cylinder engine, whereas the RC 390 still uses the older 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 43 hp and 37 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It is expected that the RC 390 may receive the LC4C engine update in 2026.

GST 2.0 brings more trouble

However, the recent GST 2.0 revisions are likely to make the motorcycle more expensive, as the government has increased taxes to 40% for bikes above 350cc in India. Bajaj, Triumph, and KTM are also reportedly planning to introduce new motorcycles in the 350cc segment to evade the high GST tax and sell their vehicles at affordable prices.

Currently, the KTM RC 390 is priced at 3.22 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. If the brand updates the motorcycle with the new 399cc engine, combined with the GST 2.0 tax regulations, prices could further increase in the Indian market, too.

There are also reports suggesting that KTM is developing a new 499cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, which could eventually replace the RC 390. The new model may be called the RC 500 or RC 450 and is expected to debut globally in 2026.
