In May 2025, the two-wheeler (2W) market in India experienced a notable increase in retail sales, as reported by the Federation of Automotive Dealers Association (FADA). The sector saw a 7.31% year-on-year growth, with 16,52,637 units sold compared to 15,40,077 units in May 2024. This growth was attributed to favourable factors such as a strong monsoon season, a robust Rabi harvest, and auspicious marriage dates throughout the month.
Despite the yearly growth, there was a slight decline in month-on-month sales. In April 2025, 16,86,774 units were sold, marking a decrease of 2.02% in May. Hero MotoCorp led the market with sales of 4,99,036 units in May 2025. Ather Energy doubled its sales figures reaching up to 12,856 units this past month compared against only 6,154 units sold during same period last year .This success can be attributed largely towards Ather Rizta which achieved a big milestone by selling 1,00,000 units within first year since launch .
Greaves Electric marked substantial growth by selling 4,178units during May 2025 compared against only 1,958 units sold same time previous year.
