E20 Fuel Concerns? Royal Enfield Offers Solution For Old Bullet & Classic 350
Royal Enfield has introduced a practical solution for its long-standing and loyal customers. Owners of older BS3 and BS4 models, such as the Bullet 350, Classic 350, and Thunderbird 350 can now opt for a genuine E20-compatible carburettor to address corrosion and rubber seal issues.

According to several reports, the higher ethanol content in E20 petrol has been linked to such problems, although the Indian government and MoRTH have denied these reports. In 2026, Royal Enfield introduced this solution specifically for customers still using older BS3 and BS4 motorcycles. These owners can now choose a genuine E20-compatible carburettor assembly designed to resolve fuel-related compatibility concerns.

Royal Enfield addresses degradation and oil seal issues by replacing the carburettor assembly, gaskets, and seals with components compatible with E20 fuel. The price of a genuine carburettor ranges from ₹3,000 to ₹4,200. Replacing seals and gaskets typically costs between ₹1,200 and ₹1,800. For 500cc EFI models, Royal Enfield has also introduced E20-compatible fuel injectors, priced at around ₹2,500.
These non-E20 compatible models were sold between 2009 and 2020. With the government providing ethanol-blended petrols, Many older Royal Enfield owners have reported issues such as cold-start problems, engine misfires, unstable idling, and fuel leaks.

While there have been reports linking E20 fuel to certain mechanical issues, the government has denied any widespread concerns. Apart from Royal Enfield, other manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Company, and Bajaj Auto also offer retrofit kits compatible with E20 fuel.
It is also important to note that ethanol has a lower energy density compared to regular petrol, which may result in a slight reduction in fuel efficiency. Using a fuel system cleaner may help maintain performance. Before using a fuel system cleaner, ensure the fuel tank has at least half a tank of fuel so the solution can mix properly and work effectively.
