Kawasaki India Teases W800 Retro Motorcycle — A New Challenger To Royal Enfield 650s?
Kawasaki India has released a new teaser showcasing the Kawasaki W800 retro motorcycle, hinting at a possible India launch as part of its 60th Anniversary celebrations. Currently, only the Kawasaki W175 is on sale in India, and it is also exported to select overseas markets. The W800 could emerge as a strong addition for the Indian market, helping Kawasaki position itself more convincingly in the premium retro motorcycle segment.
The Indian retro motorcycle segment has seen steady growth in recent years. Royal Enfield continues to dominate the middleweight space with models such as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, and Royal Enfield Classic 650. Introducing an 800cc retro motorcycle could enable Kawasaki to tap into this space, where there are very limited competitors.

Kawasaki W Series Expansion Plans?
Expanding the W series lineup in India is also strategically important, especially since the W175 hasn't delivered the anticipated results for Kawasaki. Indian buyers are increasingly seeking fresh, more powerful offerings in the retro category. Earlier reports had also suggested the possibility of Kawasaki introducing the Kawasaki W230 in the country.
This latest teaser indicates multiple product launches from the Japanese manufacturer. If Kawasaki proceeds with launching both the W230 and the W800, it could be a very good and balanced strategy aimed at improving brand visibility and driving sales growth in the retro classic motorcycle segment.

Kawasaki W800
The W800 is powered by a 773cc air-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing 51.3 bhp and 62.9 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed gearbox featuring a return shift. It features a relaxed, upright riding posture, a long, low-profile seat, and a timeless retro classic design language.
Key highlights include an assist and slipper clutch, LED headlight, twin-pod semi-digital cluster, ABS, disc brakes at both ends, twin rear shock absorbers, and telescopic front forks. If launched, this motorcycle could be priced premium at around 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Kawasaki W230
The W230 is powered by a single-cylinder 233cc air-cooled two-valve engine producing 17 hp and 19 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and return shift. It is also likely to feature ABS, disc brakes, telescopic forks, and twin rear shock suspension.
The W230 could appeal to entry-level buyers looking for an accessible Kawasaki motorcycle with respectable performance, classic styling, and everyday usability. The W800 would likely target premium buyers seeking a more powerful alternative to Royal Enfield's 650cc lineup.
