Triumph Motorcycles New 350cc Bikes Coming Soon — A Direct Challenge To Royal Enfield?
Triumph Motorcycles is expected to introduce a new sub-350cc motorcycle range by April 2026. According to multiple reports, the British brand is developing an all-new 350cc powertrain derived from its existing 398cc platform. However, it remains unclear whether the current 400cc lineup will continue alongside the new models.

The new engine is reportedly being co-developed by Bajaj Auto, KTM, and Triumph as part of a strategic move to address India's revised GST taxation structure. Last year, the government introduced a new tax policy that reduced GST to 18% for motorcycles below 350cc, while models above 350cc now attract a significantly higher tax rate of 40%.

This change has impacted several manufacturers operating in the mid-capacity segment, including Royal Enfield, Bajaj, Triumph Motorcycles, and KTM. Currently, Bajaj Auto sells models such as the Dominar 400 and Pulsar NS400, while Triumph offers the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. KTM, on the other hand, markets the Duke 390, RC 390, and Adventure 390 range. To avoid the higher tax slab and maintain competitive pricing, these brands have reportedly begun developing new sub-350cc engines based on their existing 400cc platforms.
Recent reports suggest that these new motorcycles could debut as early as April 2026. Due to the reduced engine displacement, power and torque figures are expected to drop slightly compared to the current 400cc models. However, the overall design, features, chassis components, and riding dynamics are likely to remain largely unchanged.

Triumph's 400cc motorcycles currently represent the brand's most affordable offerings and have been performing strongly in both domestic and international markets. The introduction of a sub-350cc variant could further expand accessibility while helping the company remain price-competitive under the new taxation framework.
With higher taxes influencing buyer decisions in the premium entry-level segment, a sub-350cc motorcycle delivering similar performance and riding experience could significantly boost market share. It would also position Triumph more directly against Royal Enfield, which continues to dominate the 350cc category.
Given Triumph's heritage and brand legacy comparable to Royal Enfield, a competitively priced sub-350cc motorcycle could intensify competition and reshape the segment in the coming years. The retro-classic motorcycle segment is highly competitive, with strong players such as Royal Enfield, Triumph Motorcycles, Harley-Davidson, Jawa, and Yezdi.
