TVS Overtakes Yamaha To Become World’s Third-Largest Two-Wheeler Manufacturer
Indian two-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company has overtaken Yamaha Motor Company in global sales to become the world's third-largest two-wheeler manufacturer by annual volume, claims a new report by Autocar Professional.
The milestone marks a rare reshuffle in the global motorcycle industry, which for years has been led by Honda Motor Company and Hero MotoCorp. With TVS now pipping Yamaha to the third spot on the global sales charts, two of the three podium spots are occupied by Indian manufacturers..

TVS recorded 5.46 million two-wheeler sales in the calendar year 2025, representing a 20.7 percent increase from the 4.52 million units it sold in 2024. This strong growth enabled the Chennai-based manufacturer to surpass Yamaha, which sold around 5 million units in 2025, only slightly higher than its 4.96 million units in 2024.
With this shift, TVS now sits behind Honda and Hero in the global ranking of two-wheeler manufacturers. Honda retained its leadership position with 16.44 million units sold in 2025, while Hero MotoCorp remained second with 6.25 million units.
A key factor behind TVS's growth has been its broad product portfolio across scooters, commuter motorcycles and performance models. TVS has a strong presence in high-volume segments, which helped drive up its volumes in 2025.
In contrast, Yamaha's product mix has increasingly focused on more niche or premium segments, which tend to generate lower overall volumes compared to mass-market commuter motorcycles and scooters.
TVS has also built a substantial presence in emerging markets outside India, particularly across Africa and other developing regions. These markets contribute significantly to the company's export volumes and overall global sales scale.
Looking ahead, TVS is focusing on several growth pillars including premium motorcycles, electric mobility and international expansion. The company has also strengthened its leadership team and engineering capabilities as part of its push to develop global products, including those under the Norton Motorcycles brand, which it will be releasing later this year.
