McLaren P13 Initial Details Emerge
The first official details of the McLaren P13 have been released. For those listening to that name for the first time, the P13 is a 2015 model that will be McLaren's entry level sports car, placed below MP4-12C. The McLaren P13 will rival sports cars such as the Porsche 911, sporty versions of Jaguar F-Type and the Merc SLS AMG replacement.

McLaren P13's design will be heavily influenced by its big brother, the P1 hypercar. Something that's evident when you look at the sketch done by company design chief, Frank Stephenson.
For its powertrain, on the other hand, the P13 will depend on the MP4-12C. The P13 will be powered by the 12C's twin turbo, 3.8 liter engine, which will, of course, be detuned. That engine will deliver 444 bhp of power in the P13 as against 616 bhp it delivers in the 12C.

The P13 will be built around McLaren's carbon fiber MonoCell chassis. That's the same lightweight chassis that features in the 12C and also in the P1, albeit in a modified form, called the MonoCage.
It turns out, McLaren had the P13 planned even when developing the MonoCell chassis, which is the reason why it can be adapted for the construction of the entry level sports car, while still reducing construction cost, compared to the 12C.

McLaren P13 will be a volume seller for the relatively young McLaren Automotive, the production car arm McLaren. The automaker is expected to sell over 2,500 units in 2015 itself, which will be made possible by its relatively affordable price tag.
As for the price of the P13, it will start at around 30 to 40 percent lower than the 12C. This would mean the sports car will sell for about £120,000 or around $197,000.

McLaren P13 coupe model will be launched initially, which will be followed by a convertible version. The P13 could likely be revealed at the Paris Auto Show next year, followed by a launch a year later, in 2015.
While we'll have to wait a long time for performance numbers to appear, we can rest assured that the P13 will be no slouch. Speaking about the same McLaren Automotive European sales chief, David Brimson, said it will be "a true high-performance sports car with the same DNA as the 12C and P1".
